Live Scan is a digital form of fingerprinting that can be submitted electronically to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to obtain a criminal history background check.  These are requested by certain agencies for things like employment, licensing, certification, VISA/immigration, etc.  Live Scan fingerprints can be submitted in a matter of minutes and the background checks will usually be completed in about 72 hours.  
Applicants MUST present a valid photo identification to the live scan operator. This can be a state issued drivers license or ID card, or valid US passport. Expired identification cannot be accepted.
